Medical Oncology

“Nobody wants to have to come here and see us, but I hope if they do, that they feel heard and cared for.”

— Margaret

What do you value about your work?

I get to develop an overall relationship with patients and take care of their symptoms, get them through treatment and help them feel the best they can throughout the process.

The doctors and researchers who work here are the best of the best. I want to gain as much knowledge as possible about cancer care by working with them.

What lead you to oncology care?

I have been a nurse for 25 years, and I have spent half my career in oncology — I went into nursing specifically for it and spent many years on the infusion team. Both my brother and my dad had cancer when I was younger, and I have a very vivid memory of thinking, “OK, well, I guess this all happened so I could help care for cancer patients.” I completed clinical training at Fred Hutch and realized this is where I wanted to be.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Gastrointestinal cancers

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

I see patients with a range of cancers, including esophageal, gastric, liver, pancreas, colon and rectal.

Nobody wants to have to come here and see us, but I hope if they do, they feel heard and cared for. I want to develop a friendship, learn their story and get to know patients and their families while providing care.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
