Look Beyond

Life Beyond Cancer

At Fred Hutch, we look beyond today's best treatments to make the breakthroughs that will end cancer. Our discoveries about cancer and infectious diseases have worldwide impact.

What happens when we look beyond?

Since its founding in Seattle 50 years ago, Fred Hutch Cancer Center has led revolutionary efforts that harness the human immune system to treat and cure cancer.

Scientist in lab

We are Washington’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center.

Survival rates can be improved by up to 23% when patients are cared for at a National Cancer Institute (NCI) comprehensive cancer center, like Fred Hutch. We are proud to have received this designation for our leadership in providing exceptional care combined with our depth and breadth of research, including substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges relevant scientific areas.

Recent Discoveries

New research may have cracked an important code in the quest to destroy dormant cancer cells so they never wake up. Co-led by metastasis researcher Cyrus Ghajar and immunotherapy expert Stanley Riddell, the research explains why the body’s natural immune system doesn’t eliminate disseminated tumor cells lying dormant in bone marrow or other sites and offers three potential T-cell immunotherapies that actually do.
