Dr. Ramsey is one of only a handful of doctors worldwide who are also health economists. He has led landmark studies on patterns of care and the costs and cost-effectiveness of treatments for lung, colorectal and prostate cancer. A practicing physician, he leads clinical trials through the Bone Marrow Transplant Clinical Trials Network as well as pragmatic trials evaluating health care delivery interventions through SWOG Cancer Research Network.

Dr. Shankaran is a gastrointestinal medical oncologist and health outcomes researcher who has devoted her research career to studying the financial challenges faced by cancer patients and caregivers. She has led several key studies demonstrating the serious financial impact that cancer treatment can have on patients. She also serves as the local principal investigator on a number of clinical trials in esophageal and gastric cancer. Shankaran has joint appointments at the University of Washington School of Medicine and Fred Hutch Cancer Center, where she has a busy clinical practice.
