Fred Hutch community, Obliteride saddened by cycling tragedy

Saturday, June 15, a 16-year-old cyclist participating in the Ride to Conquer Cancer died after being hit by a car. The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center community was shocked and saddened to hear this news. The loss hits especially close to home because Fred Hutch is preparing for the inaugural Obliteride bicycling event, and the rider was en route from Vancouver to Seattle.

"We are devastated to hear of the accident yesterday," said Amy Lavin, executive director of Obliteride. "Our hearts go out to the boy’s family. Obliteride and the Ride to Conquer Cancer share many of the same goals. Safety is our top priority. We will continue to do our best to create the safest ride possible as we pursue our mission to save lives faster by funding cancer research at Fred Hutch."
