Dr. Ryan Cassaday, a senior fellow in the Clinical Research Division, won a $500 Abstract Achievement Award from the American Society of Hematology at the organization’s annual meeting this month in Atlanta.

Cassaday, who is mentored by Fred Hutch’s Dr. Ajay Gopal, studies mantle cell lymphoma. Mantle cell lymphoma patients typically have transplants of their own stem cells after first remission, but little was known about transplant outcomes after two or three rounds of chemotherapy. In patients who received late transplants, Cassaday identified a subgroup of patients who had a relatively good outcome despite their high risk of relapse.
