The 36th annual Hutch Holiday Gala raised more than $6.1 million for the Hutchinson Center's research.

Aided by a 244-foot wraparound video screen featuring colleagues and scenes from the Center, Dr. Mark Roth shared highlights of his research and encouraged private support for the work of basic science researchers. Guests responded with cash donations of $5.3 million to his appeal during the "Help the Hutch" portion of the evening. (Watch the Gala basic research video.)

The Gala generated additional funds through corporate sponsorship, ticket sales and auction items. An exclusive trip to Africa—including a tour of the Uganda Cancer Institute—raised $123,000; it sold to three winning bidders for $41,000 each.

For the first time, the Hutch Holiday Gala incorporated electronic guest registration at check-in and interactive, electronic tablet bidding devices for the silent and wine auctions.

The event took place at the Sheraton Seattle Hotel on Saturday, Dec. 3 with more than 700 business and community leaders in attendance. The Hutch Holiday Gala is an annual presentation of the Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild and the Hutch Holiday Gala Board of Directors.
