This spring, Grace Heffernan Arnold Guild board members presented to the Hutchinson Center a check for $5.6 million—funds donated by guests at the 35th anniversary Hutch Holiday Gala, held last December at the Sheraton Seattle.

Guests meet $10 million challenge

During a segment of the program called “Help the Hutch,” members of the Bezos family encouraged guests to close a $10 million challenge gift—first announced at the 2009 Gala—to fund the Center’s immunotherapy research. Guests completed the goal. The family chose to structure the gift as a challenge to encourage others in the community to join the cause. The gift is the family’s largest private donation to support biomedical research.

The Hutch Holiday Gala is the single largest fundraiser benefiting the Center, raising more than $75 million to date to support research at the Center. The 2011 Gala will be held Sat. Dec. 3.
