Dr. Julie McElrath, co-director of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Division, is a new senior vice president at the Hutchinson Center. She replaces Dr. Larry Corey, who assumes the role of Center president and director in January.
McElrath heads VIDD’s Immunology and Vaccine Development Program and is principal investigator of the HIV Vaccine Trials Network laboratory program and the Seattle HIV Vaccine Trials Unit. In addition to her faculty roles in both VIDD and the Clinical Research Division, she is a professor of medicine, allergy and infectious diseases at the University of Washington.
McElrath, Corey and Dr. Steve Self served as co-directors of the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Institute since its inception in 2007 and when the institute gained division status in July. McElrath and Self will continue to co-direct VIDD after Corey’s transition.
“The Center is fortunate to maintain continuity of leadership in our newest division and acknowledge both Julie and Steve for their service as co-directors of VIDD,” said Dr. Mark Groudine, acting Center director.
