Breast cancer research programs and partnerships at the Hutchinson Center recently received more than $24,000 from Athena Partners, the nonprofit corporation that sells bottled water and other products to raise funds toward curing cancer.

The funds will support the Hutchinson Center/UW Breast Specimen Repository and Registry, the Center’s Public Health Sciences Division’s biospecimen repository and the breast cancer research of Dr. Kathi Malone.

The presentation took place during the annual “Rainier Challenge” Memorial Day weekend soccer tournament, a function of the Washington Premier Football Club (WPFC), one of the region’s largest youth soccer clubs.

The donation is the result of Athena Partners’ philanthropic partnership with the WPFC and local food service businesses, including Sysco Foodservices of Seattle, in a year-round initiative to help raise awareness and money for women’s cancers.
