Readers of the The Scientist have weighed in on yet another “best of” survey, this time on the best places to work in academia.
The Hutchinson Center ranked #13 in the magazine’s top 15 U.S. institutions, according to results released on Oct. 27. Princeton University was #1 among American institutions; the Max Planck Institute of Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics in Germany was the top-ranked overseas institution.
The Center consistently has been ranked as one of the best places to work as a post doctoral fellow. This is the first time it has been honored in the academia survey.
According to the magazine, 2,350 respondents accessed their working environments on a level scale for 38 criteria in eight different areas. Collaboration, team building and unique funding opportunities were listed most often as important work environment factors. Respondents represented 119 U.S. and international institutions.
More information about the survey results will be posted online at http://www.the-scientist.com/bptw in conjunction with the magazine’s November issue.
