Two scientists in the Clinical Research Division have been selected winners of the Burroughs Wellcome Fund's “Clinical Scientist Award in Translational Research.” Drs. Bill Grady and Edus (Hootie) Warren will each receive $150,000 annually for five years from the independent private foundation.
Grady’s work is in novel biomarkers for the prevention and treatment of colon cancer. Warren receives funding for his project “Toward immune therapy for colon cancer: Identification of antigens recognized by CD8 + T lymphocytes on colon cancer stem cells.”
Burroughs Wellcome fund administers awarded $750,000 to 13 of 119 researchers who applied. Only the Hutchinson Center had more than one award recipient.
