Eby receives imaging society scholarship

Dr. Peter Eby, a physician in breast imaging at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance and an assistant professor of radiology in breast imaging at the University of Washington School of Medicine, has been named the 2007 American Roentgen Ray Society (ARRS)/Philips Medical Systems Scholar. Eby received the award during the ARRS annual meeting in Orlando, Fla., in May.

Eby's interest is in breast imaging and image-guided therapy for breast cancer. He plans to use the scholarship to complete a program of graduate coursework in bioengineering and to develop a focused research proposal on image-guided tumor removal.

"The support from this program will allow me to acquire valuable knowledge and skills in laboratory research and technology development through graduate coursework. This knowledge is critical to my current efforts in bringing radiology and bioengineering together to create novel image-guided interventions and therapies for breast cancer," Eby said.

A graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine in Nashville, Tenn., Eby has since received numerous honors and awards, including Vanderbilt's School of Medicine Award of Distinction. He has also contributed to manuscripts and abstracts and served as a manuscript reviewer for the American Journal of Roentgenology.

The 107-year old ARRS is the oldest radiology society in the United States. Created to help prepare scholars for positions of leadership in academic radiology, the society honors Dr. Wilhelm Röentgen, recipient of the first Nobel Prize in physics for discovering the X-ray in 1895.
