Dr. Lee Hartwell, president and director, and Dr. Eric Larson, executive directive of Group Health Center of Health Studies (CHS), signed an affiliation agreement on Dec. 19, 2006 — a step that formalizes a long-standing partnership in cancer research.

Long history of collaboration

For more than 20 years, the two institutions have collaborated through affiliate and joint faculty appointments and joint research projects in areas such as cancer of the breast, lung, colon and pancreas. Together they have developed and applied new knowledge and technologies that are contributing to the prediction, prevention and cure of cancer and related diseases, as well as the translation of findings into clinical practice.

The new affiliation agreement clears the way for further collaboration, including joint faculty recruitments, use of shared resources and the establishment of an affiliation committee to evaluate the progress of the relationship.
