Marie Bleakley named recipient of post-transplant research award

March 3, 2005

Dr. Marie Bleakley, a senior pediatric-oncology fellow in the Clinical Research Division, was named the 2005 SuperGen Postdoctoral Fellow of the Amy Strelzer Manasevit Research Program for the Study of Post-Transplant Complications. The $35,000, one-year award was presented last month at the annual meeting of the American Society for Bone Marrow Transplantation in Keystone, Colo.

Bleakley's research topic, "Targeting the Leukemic Stem Cell: Development of a Novel Therapeutic Strategy to Prevent and Treat Leukemic Relapse Following Allogeneic Stem Cell Transplant," will center on the development of therapies to prevent and treat a relapse of leukemia that sometimes follows blood stem-cell transplants, and will support the development of leukemia vaccines. The award is administered through The Marrow Foundation and the National Marrow Donor Program.
