Major Collaborations

The Statistical Center for HIV/AIDS Research and Prevention (SCHARP) partners with researchers and institutions around the world that are tackling the most pressing and impactful health priorities. The networks and consortiums below provide examples of our work.

HIV Vaccine Trials Network

HIV Vaccine Trials Network (HVTN) designs and conducts all phases of clinical trials around the world, from evaluating experimental HIV/AIDS vaccines and broadly neutralizing antibody (bnAb) infusions for safety and immunogenicity to rigorously testing vaccine and bnAb efficacy. SCHARP has supported the network, which is funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), since 1999.

HIV Prevention Trials Network

HIV Prevention Trials Network (HPTN) researchers integrate strategies for HIV prevention, including antiretroviral drugs and behavioral risk reduction interventions. This global network evaluates new HIV prevention interventions and strategies in populations and geographical regions that have a high rate of infection. SCHARP has provided data management expertise to HPTN since 1999.

Vaccine Immunology Statistical Center/Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discover

The Vaccine Immunology Statistical Center (VISC) provides biostatistical collaboration to support projects that accelerate discovery for global health. The center brings technical expertise in high-dimensional data analysis, and statistical and machine learning methods that cut across disease foci including tuberculosis, COVID-19, malaria, HIV and others. VISC is funded by the Gates Foundation and is part of the Collaboration for AIDS Vaccine Discovery (CAVD). SCHARP partners with VISC on statistical analysis, methods development and lab data management.

Sexually Transmitted Infections Impact Research Consortium

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of STD Prevention (DSTDP) launched the Sexually Transmitted Infections Impact Research Consortium (STIIRC) to provide research, scientific and technical expertise to increase the population-level impact of STI prevention and control through public health programs and improve health equity for populations disproportionately affected by STI. SCHARP serves as the Data Coordinating Center in partnership with the University of Washington.

Infectious Disease Clinical Research Consortium

The Infectious Disease Clinical Research Consortium (IDCRC) works through a flexible, sustaining structure to advance new countermeasures and approaches to product development, implement efficient clinical study/trial designs, promote the integration of special and underserved populations in IDCRC research across the human lifespan. The IDCRC also supports exceptional career development and mentoring of future leaders in infectious diseases clinical research. SCHARP supports the IDCRC’s Statistical and Data Science Unit.
