Fred Hutch Cancer Center researchers are seeking better ways to prevent and detect sarcoma, and better ways to treat it. We are also working to better understand the factors that affect each person’s risk for this cancer. Our scientists are developing new methods to gauge how well a sarcoma tumor will respond to treatment, too.
Sarcoma Clinical Trials
Fred Hutch typically has over 750 active cancer clinical trials enrolling participants.
Clinical trials may allow some patients access to a promising new treatment, and help physicians and researchers learn more about a disease.

Immunotherapies
We’re world leaders in harnessing the immune system to attack cancer. This is called immunotherapy. A key example is T-cell therapy, which makes use of a specialized type of immune cell, the T cell. Our scientists are reprogramming patients’ own T cells to better recognize and target sarcomas.
We run sarcoma clinical trials that are combining radiation with these T-cell therapies. We test drugs called checkpoint inhibitors, too. These support a patient’s immune system so it offers a better response against sarcomas.
Targeted Drug Therapies
We’re studying new drugs that target substances on or in sarcoma cells and disrupt their ability to grow and spread.
Sarcoma Clinical Trials
Our researchers run clinical trials on different types of sarcoma. When your care team creates your treatment plan, they will talk with you about joining a clinical trial. You will get information about all of the sarcoma clinical trials that may be a good match for you. Your care team will talk with you about if you might want to join a study and why. This can help you make the decision that is best for you.
If you decide to join a clinical trial at Fred Hutch, you will see the same physicians, nurses and care staff that you already know. Our sarcoma team’s goal is to seamlessly include clinical trials in the care plans for all patients who may be eligible and who want to join.
Our Sarcoma Researchers and Faculty
Our scientists and providers work together to prevent, diagnose and treat sarcoma as well as other cancers and diseases. The lab research and clinical research they do are essential parts of the scientific process that leads to new treatments and better care.
