Medical Oncology

“It’s an honor to be there for patients as they go through one of the roughest periods of their lives. I enjoy bringing them comfort and providing the information they need to make decisions.”

— Allie

What do you value about your work?

Guiding patients and supporting them while we navigate oncology treatment is rewarding to me. I enjoy bringing comfort to patients and their families and providing the information they need to make decisions that are best suited for each individual person. I like that I get to spend time with patients, lend a listening ear and provide support in whatever way they need. I also value being able to work at an institution in which cutting edge research is being developed and utilized to give patients the best chance of overcoming their disease.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I have had many family members who have been diagnosed with cancer and I feel like I developed a connection with breast cancer patients after two aunts were treated for it. It was an overwhelming time for my family, and there was just so much information to take in. Going through those experiences have shaped the way I work with patients now.

I want people to feel supported, cared for and heard. I also find it important to give people time to process the details and encourage them to ask questions.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dieticians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
