Hematology-Oncology

“After taking care of my first patient with cancer right after nursing school, I knew I was meant to be an oncology provider. I appreciate being able to combine my knowledge with compassionate care while understanding each patient's story.”

— Shanna

What do you value about your work?

It’s my goal to provide individualized care by communicating well with patients and staff to make sure everything is done right for each person.

I have been working in oncology for more than two decades and have learned how important it is to provide excellent, thorough care. I hold on to every patient story and use them as a guide to drive my practice.

Do you have any favorite memories of providing care to a patient you’d like to share?

I helped a patient and their family with a new diagnosis of B-cell lymphoma through critical illness, urgent chemotherapy requiring intense monitoring, and then rehabilitation and repeat hospitalizations for their completion of treatment. It was very rewarding to work with him as he went from being very ill and requiring aggressive management to talking about books and life stories months later with his family.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
