Michael Schweizer, MD, decided to work in health care because he wanted to feel intellectually challenged in his career and, more importantly, he wanted to do something that would allow him to help people. Medicine was the perfect fit. “Early on in my training, I realized that you often see the best in people when they are faced with a cancer diagnosis,” Dr. Schweizer said. “The hope that my patients have in spite of being diagnosed with such serious illnesses is inspiring. It’s my patients’ hope that motivates me and makes me want to be a part of working toward cures.” Dr. Schweizer’s research involves translational genitourinary cancer. “My goal is to help reduce the morbidity and mortality associated with diseases like prostate cancer through developing novel drug therapies. Cancer is a formidable foe, but one that I believe we can vanquish. I hope to be a part of bringing the dream of a world without cancer into reality. I hope to see cancer cured in my lifetime.” Outside of work, Dr. Schweizer enjoys cooking, hiking, and spending time with his wife and two children.
