Hematology-Oncology

Medical Oncology

“Being part of a team that offers hope, support, knowledge and dignity through every step and stage of cancer is both a privilege and a responsibility I take to heart.”

— Megan

What brought you to oncology?

I am naturally drawn to the human side of medicine, and in oncology there is a unique intersection of advanced science, continually evolving treatments and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with patients and their families. I appreciate each of these aspects.

Like many people, I have been touched by cancer in my personal life. My grandma was affected by head and neck cancer. What really shaped my outlook was seeing how life continued at home afterward — the impact of cancer isn’t just during treatment. It is felt during the ongoing, daily reality of living with the effects and recovery, and seeing this through a family member truly changed my perspective. It deepened my appreciation for the resilience of those affected by cancer and demonstrated to me the importance of holistic approaches to support ongoing medical needs and quality of life.

How do you approach providing patient care?

My approach is grounded in honesty, empathy and shared decision-making. I believe in being transparent. That means sharing information clearly, answering questions openly and never withholding difficult information. At the same time, I lead with empathy, recognizing that every person is navigating their own emotional and physical journey. From there, I view care as a partnership, working to explore options and make decisions that reflect both clinical best practices and personal values.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Benign and malignant hematology, general medical oncology

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who sees patients at Fred Hutch at Overlake Cancer Center.

One of my favorite memories of providing patient care comes from my time at a rural clinic. In that close-knit community, gaining the trust of patients was everything. Over time, I wasn't just a health care provider — I became part of patients’ extended family. It’s these genuine bonds that remind me why this work is so meaningful and why every decision matters.

Community Oncology

Our mission is to provide patients with the highest quality, personalized care closer to home. As part of Fred Hutch, our community oncologists offer patients multidisciplinary tumor board opinions, clinical trials and expertise in treating a variety of cancers.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
