Medical Oncology

“Cancer impacts more than the person who is diagnosed with it. It means neighbors are checking in and spouses are taking time off work. Cancer effects a whole community.”

— Mattie

What is your approach to working with patients?

I become a part of the team around the individual. I see myself as part of their community, and my mission is to care for them as a whole person – heart, mind and body. I want to understand their health and life goals so we can collaborate to determine the best treatment options available.

My goal is to be both excellent and knowledgeable in my job while creating a space where patients feel less like a patient and more like part of a team working toward the same goals.

What is your favorite part about providing oncology care?

My favorite memories are the moments of laughter, like when someone in the room cracks a joke. I love when we are reminded of our humanity and need for joy, and it's inspiring to see people going through the hardest time in their lives choosing to smile and laugh.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
