Pulmonology

“I see myself as an advocate, doing whatever I can — big or small — to make navigating your diagnosis a little easier.”

— Maggie

What do you enjoy about helping patients with pulmonary complications?

Breathing is integral to life. If you can’t breathe well, you don’t feel well, and you don’t have the energy to work, play or spend quality time with the people you love. Being able to help alleviate respiratory issues allows me to focus on improving patients’ quality of life, which is very meaningful for me. I see each interaction as an opportunity to listen and help patients in whatever way I can, even if it’s something as simple as refilling a medication. Being able to make those little differences during every visit is my goal.

What personal experiences have shaped your approach to care?

When I was a kid, my aunt was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. With the best of intentions, my family tried to shelter me from what was happening. However, their efforts had an unintended consequence; my aunt’s health situation became a mystery that inspired my initial interest in oncology. Because of this experience, I believe in having honest discussions with patients and their families, regardless of the content. The more information people have — when they are ready to hear it — the more empowered they are to make their own decisions.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Cancer-related pulmonary complications

I am a registered nurse practitioner who specializes in treating pulmonary complications — problems affecting the respiratory tract — that are related to cancer diagnosis and treatment. My background includes working in thoracic oncology and caring for patients with cancers affecting the head and neck. In addition to providing hands-on care, I am also active in research, studying the effect of stem cell transplantation on patients’ lung function.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
