Hematology-Oncology

“My patient-centered philosophy places each person’s needs, preferences and values at the forefront of every decision. I strive to create a collaborative and empowering environment.”

— Kimberly

How have you been personally impacted by cancer?

Witnessing my mother’s experience with breast cancer sparked a profound interest in oncologic care in me and heightened my sense of empathy and compassion for those affected by cancer. It helped me understand the importance of providing not only clinical expertise but also unwavering support and understanding for patients and their families.

I want patients to feel heard, respected and actively engaged in their experience, and to deliver personalized care that is both effective and culturally sensitive. I am committed to providing comprehensive care that promotes healing, resilience and overall well-being for individuals and their communities.

Do you have a favorite memory of working with a patient you’d like to share?

I had a deeply rewarding encounter where I assisted a patient who initially struggled with agreeing to start a medically necessary medication. I dedicated time and patience to engage with the patient and their family members, discussing the importance of the medication and addressing their concerns with empathy and understanding. Through compassionate communication and education, we reached a point where the patient felt empowered and comfortable to proceed with the treatment plan while also committing to regular follow-ups with the clinic.

This experience reinforced my belief in the importance of patient education and advocacy. It also brought me immense joy to witness the positive impact it had on the patient's health outcomes and their confidence in seeking medical assistance. It serves as a poignant reminder to me of the transformative power of effective communication and patient-centered care.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Multiple myeloma

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

I aim to foster a trusting and collaborative relationship with each of my patients, where open communication and mutual respect are valued. Patients can trust that I will always take the time to listen attentively and answer any questions.

Working in oncology in Alaska, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Fred Hutch for patients requiring bone marrow transplants, including those with multiple myeloma, and I look forward to continuing to contribute in this area of practice.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
