Hematology-Oncology

“Everyone is different in terms of what they need, but I really do become almost like a friend to patients. I want to be there to answer questions, but also serve in a supporting role.”

— Jacob

What brought you to oncology?

At an early age, I was going to the hospital to see my grandfather when he had esophageal cancer. He was a big part of my life, and seeing him sick like that was really eye-opening. His care team was inspiring: They were compassionate and helped us as a family, not only my grandfather. I knew this was what I really wanted to do with my life.

What do you value about your work?

The most fulfilling part is getting to know patients on a deeper level. I think what I do is interesting from a medical and scientific perspective, but I get the biggest charge out of talking with patients and understanding them as whole people. Listening to people with compassion — hearing their hopes, dreams and what they enjoy and have loved throughout their lives — makes coming to work easy.

Dealing with any sort of cancer diagnosis can be a lot to process, and I want to be a compassionate part of their team.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Hematology-oncology

I am a certified physician assistant who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

I hope patients feel comfortable and able to ask any questions that come up. I want them to feel like even if I don’t have the answer at that moment, I will find a way to get them one. I strive to make sure no one walks out the door confused.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
