What would be different about receiving care from you at Fred Hutch compared to going elsewhere?

Often, I first meet patients at their initial post-surgery visit. We’ll go over your surgery results and map out the next steps in your treatment plan. During this visit, I also want to make sure you understand you’re part of a system that’s going to support and nurture you. Along with treating your disease, we want to help you minimize the risk of a recurrence or another cancer while living your healthiest life. This can mean everything from protecting your skin from the sun to finding resources to help with anxiety. Many people at Fred Hutch will work together to provide comprehensive care that addresses both your physical and mental wellness.

What do you think patients appreciate most about your way of caring for them?

The feedback that means the most to me is that you feel you were not only listened to but were really heard during your visit — and that we took the time to address your concerns. I want you to feel completely comfortable and safe coming back to see me for any issues that come up for you in the future.

Breast cancer

My mother is a breast cancer survivor, so I had firsthand experience watching someone I love go through treatment and supporting her before I ever became a physician assistant. At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, we see patients who are at high risk for breast cancer as well as those who have the disease, which means I get to work with people who are at many different points in the process. This gives me many opportunities to help patients understand what’s happening — for instance, going over your pathology report together. It’s a team effort; I partner with your doctors to make sure that you get access to the care you need and that you know what to expect.
