Hematology-Oncology
Being relatively new to the field, I feel like I learn a lot from my colleagues. It’s humbling to work with people who have led the way in changing how we treat common cancers. Everyone is always willing to help and support each other here.
I know when patients come to see me, they’re not always in a good spot psychologically and emotionally. I want to make sure they feel supported and know they can share their concerns with me as we go through treatment. I want decisions to be joint ones that include their goals.
My interest in medicine in general grew out of the desire to combine science with interacting with people, because I really enjoy that part. I first started to think about oncology after my aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer when I was an undergraduate student, and then in medical school I found hematology-oncology. My mentor as a resident was a hematologist, so that continued to develop my interest in this area of practice.
