Radiology

“I strive to treat my patients the way I would like to be treated myself as a patient. My goal is to provide my patients with high-quality breast imaging to detect breast cancer as early as possible to direct them towards optimal management.”

— Dr. Parsian

Why do you practice oncology?

Health is the most important thing in our lives and to be able to help my patients preserve or gain back their health gives me great satisfaction. Like so many others, I am no stranger to breast cancer as several of my family members have been affected by it. The ability to see firsthand the role effective screening can play in early detection and improved outcomes has strengthened my interest in clinical breast imaging and research. I, therefore, have taken particular satisfaction in contributing to the development of improved advanced breast cancer detection methods. Under the mentorship of Dr. Habib Rahbar, MD, I am currently investigating whether higher quantitative breast MRI background parenchymal enhancement (BPE) correlates with the presence of inflammation and proliferation within the normal breast tissue microenvironment, key factors in breast cancer development. We are also investigating whether changes in BPE in women on selective estrogen receptor modulators can identify which women will benefit most from chemoprevention. If successful, this work could lead the way to use MRI to better identify women at highest risk for breast cancer and develop targeted chemoprevention approaches to reduce their risk. Outside of work, I enjoy hiking, painting, reading and spending time with family.
