Surgery

“I want patients to know I am always on their side and available to listen to their concerns. I am passionate about helping people through challenging times.”

— Dr. Siddharthan

How have you been personally impacted by cancer?

My grandmother had breast cancer when I was a teenager. She was a remarkable woman. She fled a civil war, came to a new country and built a new life for our family. Witnessing her cancer experience taught me that anyone can develop cancer and that each person’s outlook and approach are just as important as the treatment received.

I believe in collaboration between the patient and their treatment team. Personalizing care according to established medical guidelines is my primary goal. What may be the best treatment for one patient might not be ideal for another. My aim is to bridge this gap and provide the highest quality of care tailored to each patient's specific needs.

What brought you to focusing on cancer and providing surgical care?

I specialize in colon and rectal surgery because I am fascinated by the disease pathology and the significant impact it can have on patients' lives. The colon and rectum are among the most complex organs in the body, and we are continually discovering new details. With rising rates of colon and rectal cancer in younger populations, there is still much to learn, and this keeps me engaged and energized. I strive to bring a positive and upbeat energy to work each day. I truly enjoy my job and the impact I can have.

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
