Radiology

“The reason I was drawn to the medical field was an intrinsic interest in the human body and mind, coupled with a strong desire to help people maintain this in a healthy and wholesome manner.”

— Dr. Jagtiani

What brought you to radiology?

The challenge of radiology is that it requires one to know a little bit about every subspecialty and to maintain this holistic approach while providing care. It’s a bit like solving a jigsaw puzzle at times, and I enjoy this part of it because of my varied exposure and training in general surgery and clinical imaging, from three continents. I treat patients as my own family while providing care.

Do you have any interesting stories about providing care you’d like to share?

When I was practicing in England, I walked into an exam room in business mode to scan a patient. As I entered, the lights were on, and I said to the sonographer, “Can we switch the lights off, please, so I can see better?” And the patient burst out laughing. We radiologists tend to live in a dark room viewing images. We all enjoyed the humor of the situation.
