Hematology-Oncology

“I am happy to take the time to make sure my patients are as informed and supported in their decisions as possible.”

— Liss

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I value each patient’s autonomy and respect when patients make the best decision for themselves. I want to be an educator and collaborator in that process. Treating cancer may lead to long hospital stays and it can sometimes be hard to find day-to-day normalcy. My most cherished memories are from when I have had extra time with patients to share stories, wisdom, encouragement and once even a very slow game of Scrabble between nursing rounds.

Have you been personally impacted by cancer?

I remember how the rest of the world fell away when my mom called to tell me that she had been diagnosed with cancer, and the sleepless nights that followed while living with the uncertainty. Drawing on my experience, I helped her understand her diagnosis and staging and navigate the questions about what to do and where to go.

Her outcome was good and that experience has informed my approach to patient care. I am excited to continue to learn from and be part of an experienced and knowledgeable team that has access to the newest treatment developments.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
