Hematology-Oncology

“Patients’ experiences can impact their health outcomes, so my goal is to be a partner and make medical recommendations that align with their priorities — to provide holistic, patient-centered care.”

— Marielle

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

My hope is for patients to know I am in their corner during what can be a physically and emotionally challenging time. I aim to support patients with compassion and kindness. I feel honored to be a part of their journey.

Do you have any favorite memories of working with patients you’d like to share?

Cancer does not take a break for milestone moments, making it important to celebrate special events regardless of the setting. When a teenage patient was unable to go to a hospital-hosted prom, we nurses decided we would bring the prom to her, transforming the teen room into “Starry Nights.” A nurse brought gowns for others to wear, got a karaoke machine, made decorations and asked the nutrition team to send snacks and drinks for the patient and her family to enjoy. We sang and danced, celebrating her with her family until we passed the party baton to the oncoming shift. Being able to capture this milestone and commemorate her will forever bring a smile to my face.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Blood and marrow transplantation, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HPSCT)

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center – Montlake.

Hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) is a dynamic and individualized treatment option for cancers and disease processes that are commonly resistant to standard treatment options. Being a clinician who specializes in this area necessitates a curiosity for lifelong learning and enjoyment for detail-oriented work. I am driven to meet the evolving needs of medically complex patients and inspired by their spirit of optimism.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
