When my grandmother was diagnosed with lung cancer, it was a really difficult time for my family, but I was impressed with the medical staff who took care of her. Years later, I ended up working in a lab focused on leukemia research, studying the basic science of hematopoietic stem cells (immature cells that can become any kind of blood cell). I’ve always been interested in science and health, so I enjoyed the work, but I realized that something was missing: working directly with patients. Moving from the lab to the bedside was a better fit for my personality; I feel I’ve been able to contribute more in this setting.
My primary purpose is to address your medical issues while also supporting you through diagnosis and treatment. Open communication is essential to a successful partnership. I’m interested in learning about who you are, your goals and expectations for treatment, and what priorities you would like to set. I hope that you’ll feel comfortable coming to me with questions, symptoms that trouble you — big or small — and any concerns you have about treatment.
