Hematology-Oncology

“I meet you where you are, caring for you the way I would want my loved ones to be treated.”

— Kristin

Why do you choose to work in health care?

Initially, it was because I liked the science — anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology. But then I realized how much I enjoyed taking care of people, too. In nursing school, I spent time working on a bone marrow transplant unit, and I was blown away by how smart the nurses were and the intimate relationships they developed with patients and their families. What drives me are the boundless opportunities to learn new things about my patients and their caregivers, my colleagues and the constantly evolving field of oncology.

What has shaped your approach to patient care?

My father-in-law died of metastatic lung cancer. Walking through this disease course with him gave me a lot of insight into what patients and families go through. I empathize with them in a way that I wasn’t able to before my father-in-law’s illness. My conversations, explanations and overall approach to care are all tailored to meet you where you are in the process. I like to create a safe space where you can ask questions and confide your fears or concerns.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
General medical oncology and hematology

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner with 25 years of experience in oncology care, including inpatient and outpatient medical oncology as well as radiation oncology. Rather than specializing in a single area, I treat patients with a variety of disease types, from solid tumors to blood cancers. I also participate in research, working with patients involved in breast cancer clinical trials.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
