Surgery

“Navigating the health care system can be stressful even without a cancer diagnosis. My goal is to help patients feel confident in their care prior to surgery and active in their care during recovery so they can return to what brings them joy.”

— Kendall

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I put each person at the forefront of their care. Cancer and its treatment can make people feel like they have lost control. I do what I can to advocate for each patient so they feel more in charge of their care. My main goals are for each person to feel valued as an individual and to feel heard.

I get to know each patient and their support system. I value who and what is important to each patient, and I believe that a strong support system can make a world of difference during surgical recovery. I want every member of a patient’s team to feel comfortable reaching out to me for answers.

Do you have any favorite memories you’d like to share?

I appreciate witnessing a patient doing the things they love. It is so special to me when a patient shares stories or photos of time spent with friends or family, or about outdoor adventures or travels — whatever keeps them strong throughout treatment.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
