Hematology-Oncology

“I feel privileged to provide care to patients. I am always happy to answer questions or spend additional time to help people understand their treatment plans.”

— Kelly

How have you been personally impacted by cancer?

My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer. Since she does not have much of a medical background, she found it difficult to navigate her care. This has given me a new perspective for any patient who has minimal experience with medicine and health care. I have become an advocate for my mom, and doing so has highlighted just how important it is for me to do the same for all patients and help empower them. I also have a deeper understanding of how patients and their loved ones handle a difficult diagnosis.

How do you approach providing patient care?

I want to get to know each patient as a person first. I believe it is important to establish a relationship with patients so they feel valued. I want to know about their passions, their family and friends, what gives them joy and anything they feel comfortable sharing. I think this allows patients to feel more comfortable asking questions or expressing medical concerns.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Blood and marrow transplantation

I am a certified physician assistant who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and Fred Hutch at UW Medical Center - Montlake.

Oncology is fascinating to me because of its complexity and the revolutionary advancements within this area of practice. I enjoy this ever-changing field of medicine where I can continue to learn and grow for the betterment of the patients I serve. Beyond the medicine, I also appreciate building close relationships with my patients. I promise to provide high-quality, evidence-based medical care to all.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
