Medical Oncology

“I am thankful to be part of an institution that values the importance of discovering new therapies.”

— Katie

Did you always know you'd be a nurse?

I knew from a young age that I wanted to pursue a career in health care. I’ve always been fascinated by the complexities of the human body and mind, and health care blends both. My interest in oncology began when I personally experienced family members being affected by cancer. Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, I worked as a team coordinator at Fred Hutch and felt so touched and inspired by the patients. I witnessed such incredible resilience and strength. It was an honor to be part of the patient care team. After graduating from my nurse practitioner program, I knew I wanted to care for oncology patients.

What is your approach to treatment?

I believe excellent patient-centered care involves shared decision-making that’s supportive and reflective of your social, cultural and personal values. I am dedicated to advocating for my patients and collaborating with the entire team. I’m happy to be working here at Fred Hutch; it’s gratifying to be part of a group that values the importance of discovering new treatments. I’m excited and enthusiastic to see what the next 10 years will bring in cancer research and care.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
