I was drawn to plastic and reconstructive surgeries because I had an interest in a hands-on, procedural approach to surgery. Plastic surgeons are able to be creative, tailoring our work to our patients’ needs. Other surgical specialties allow for less creativity as there is often only one correct method or technique for completing an operation. Breast reconstruction is a more collaborative decision-making process with the patient, rather than following a set of rules and instructions. We can give patients options so that they can choose what’s best for them.
All SCCA providers, from nurses to APPs to physicians, are here for the right reason; we’re interested in being part of a team that delivers exceptional patient care. I have seen countless examples of providers going above and beyond for their patients because they truly care. My colleagues and I strive for the highest quality patient experience and I think that shows from the moment a patient begins their journey at SCCA.
It’s lovely when you can feel the change from when you first met to when you’re nearing the end of your patient-physician relationship, and you can tell that they’re in a very different place mentally and emotionally than they were before.
I am a plastic and reconstructive surgeon who specializes in cancer reconstruction with a specific focus on breast reconstruction. I also perform reconstruction for other forms of cancer (skin cancers, sarcomas, pelvic and colorectal cancers), general reconstructive plastic surgery and aesthetic surgery of the body and breast. My role as a plastic surgeon is to solve unique challenges with creative solutions, often in conjunction with colleagues in other specialties. My research interests include improving patients’ clinical outcomes in reconstructive surgery and quality improvement within our healthcare system
