“It’s rewarding to use my heart and mind to guide you through a significant chapter in your life.”

— Heidi

Why do you practice oncology?

Resilience and steadfastness in the face of adversity have always been qualities that I admire, partly because they have been woven into my family for generations. My grandfather was a Polish prisoner of war in Siberia during World War I, and both of my parents lived through the experience of Nazi Germany. If my family has taught me anything, it’s that the power of the human spirit is incredible — and it’s something I see every day in my patients. My patients' strength — just like that of my family’s — is deeply inspiring, and I consider it a privilege to work with them.

How do you work with patients?

I am a three-time breast cancer survivor myself and believe that kindness goes a long way; it’s the key to helping people through difficult times. During our consultations, you can expect me to listen to your experiences, symptoms and concerns without judgment. I aim to meet your individual needs — from the physical to the psychosocial to the spiritual — through evidence-based practice, a little bit of humor and a whole lot of compassion.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
