Rehabilitation Medicine

“I value taking a collaborative approach to figure out a meaningful path for each patient. I like to get to know your strengths and unique qualities, because those are among our most helpful tools in psychotherapy.”

— Dr. Ho

What brought you to oncology?

Rehabilitation psychology is a specialty area within clinical psychology focused on helping people navigating illness, injury and disability. This specialty appealed to me because of its team-based approach and its strong emphasis on advocacy.

A close family member was diagnosed with cancer when I was a kid. I remember how isolated and helpless we felt, especially as an immigrant family with limited local support. That memory motivated me to become a clinical psychologist focused on health and rehabilitation concerns. I feel very privileged to support people with cancer.

What do you value about your work?

I enjoy working with my patients’ larger medical and rehabilitation team, because each member of the care team — especially the patient — has an important perspective to share.

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
