Hematology

“I want to forge a relationship with each patient and explain to them in understandable terms what their disease process is and what the treatment options are, so that together we can decide on a plan that is tailored to their needs.”

— Dr. Jiang

What brought you to hematology?

The multidisciplinary aspects of the care are what drew me to the field. As a medical student, I was interested in the pathophysiology of blood disorders, and this sparked an academic interest. As a resident, I started following patients in longitudinal studies and came to appreciate how complex these diseases are, how hard they are to manage, how sick patients can feel and how this intersects with other areas of medicine.

What makes the care unique at Fred Hutch?

We are known for stem cell transplantion, but beyond that, I came here as a trainee because I was drawn to the strength and depth of the non-malignant hematology department and their expertise. It is very exciting to work alongside people who are international experts and learn from them as we treat patients with complex conditions. This knowledge makes the care exceptional.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Hematology, non-malignant hematology

I am a physician who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center – Montlake.

I am fascinated by autoimmune conditions and how our immune system functions. One patient can have the same diagnosis as another patient, but the pathways to the disease are different. As we advance our understanding and therapeutic options, it is important to think about how to tailor treatments to each individual and their specific disease process.
