Hematology-Oncology

“I am interested in being a patient advocate. I do my best to listen, make sure everyone in the room feels heard and address all questions and concerns.”

— Brian

How have you been personally impacted by cancer?

My mom was treated for a long time for non-small cell adenocarcinoma of the lung. She received excellent care at Fred Hutch, and we had great confidence in her treatment team. It is a privilege to be a part of the organization that helped give her a high-quality life and dignity throughout her care.

What is your approach to providing patient care?

I do my best to be thorough, deliberate and a strong, active listener. I am transparent about what I know and what I don't. When I don’t know an answer, I research and ask questions until I have one.

Many of my favorite memories are of helping patients and family members make decisions about care that align with their personal values — and of navigating the complex emotions that come with these decisions.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Inpatient hematology and oncology, sickle cell disease

I am a certified physician assistant who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center - Montlake.

I decided to specialize in hematology and oncology because of my personal ties to cancer and oncologic diseases and a desire to assist patients on the difficult roads they can present.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
