“I want patients to know our team is here for them every step of the way. Compassion lies at the heart of all we do. We work to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable, supported and genuinely heard.”

— Ashtyn

What is your approach to providing care?

My approach is holistic and patient-centered. I believe health care should consider the whole person, not just their immediate medical needs. I take the time to learn about a patient’s health goals, values and beliefs so I am better able to provide individualized care. I aim to create a space for trust and honesty while educating and empowering patients and their families to make informed decisions about their health.

Do you have a favorite memory of working with a patient that you’d like to share?

One of my favorite memories was when I cared for a patient as she was recovering from surgery for a brain tumor. I became very aware that having messy hair was bothering the patient, so I spent my spare time combing around her surgical incision and fixing her hair into braids. She later grabbed my hand, hugged me and cried. Her daughter later told me her hair was her “prized possession.”

When the patient was due to be transferred to a new floor for chemotherapy and radiation, she bestowed upon me the honor of cutting her hair and shaving her head while her family was present to support her and take pictures. The opportunity to share that experience with her and her family was both humbling and profound, and I will never forget it.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.
