Hematology-Oncology

“I strive to develop strong relationships with my patients as I believe that this will help me better treat them in line with their desires and beliefs as they undergo the challenges of cancer therapy.”

— Andrea

Why do you practice oncology?

When I was growing up, my mom worked in the healthcare field and my dad was a professor working with pre-med students. It was constantly in my house and I just felt pulled to enter the field as well. I also had a family member very close to me affected by cancer when we were younger. She was so strong through everything and thankfully she is alive and well. I remember even at that young age thinking about all the people caring for her and how important it was to have people willing to do that. I remember thinking that I could and should be one of those people. When I was 14, I knew that this is where I wanted to be. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughter and our two dogs. We love going boating on the lake and on Puget Sound. We also enjoy attending UW Husky sporting events.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
