Medical Oncology

“Your life is multifaceted and your cancer care is only one part of your day. When I can get to know you, together, we can customize your care.”

— Abby

What do you want patients to know about you?

I want patients to know I am their friend in health care. I want to help each patient navigate the health care system. Patients and families can speak freely, ask any question and have full confidence that my listening ears are ready. I want to empower each patient to be part of the medical decision-making process. My primary goal in each visit is to make sure any concerns are addressed and each patient’s goals are supported by their medical team.

Do you have a favorite memory of working with a patient you’d like to share?

The best memories of patients are the ones that can’t quite be described. In health care, we sometimes meet someone on one of the worst days or moments in their life. It’s not always a “happy” memory that is my favorite. It’s the moment I was able to be there in some capacity for my patient. I know it can take time to trust that someone you’ve never met has your best interest in mind. I have had patients and their family members tell me the day went better than they expected and ask if I can continue being their provider the next day. These are the memories I cherish the most.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
