About

Dr. Emily Rosen is a board-certified infectious disease physician and researcher at Fred Hutch. She specializes in infectious diseases, particularly in people with weakened immune systems.

Background

Dr. Rosen treats infectious diseases in patients with cancer and those receiving hematopoietic (blood-forming) stem cell transplants. She focuses on caring for patients who are at higher risk for infection due to weakened immune systems from disease or treatment.

Dr. Rosen’s research centers on stewardship to ensure diagnostic tests and antibiotics are used carefully and appropriately. Her goal is to optimize the use of diagnostic tests to ensure timely and accurate diagnoses, and to improve how antibiotics are used to enhance patient safety, minimize drug‑related side effects and reduce antimicrobial resistance.

Area of Clinical Practice
Infectious diseases

“I was drawn to the specialty of infectious diseases because it allows me to think about the intricate mechanisms our immune system uses to fight infections and how we can leverage this knowledge to improve care for patients.”

— Dr. Rosen

What do you want patients to know about you?

I went into medicine to apply my love of science in a way that has a meaningful impact on people's lives, both through patient care and by advancing the field through research. In addition to patient care, I am also involved in research that focuses on improving the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of infections for people with cancer, transplants, and weakened immune systems.

What is your approach to caring for a patient?

I take a thorough, thoughtful and patient-centered approach to clinical care. Developing a partnership with my patients to understand their goals forms the foundation of my practice. I then incorporate the latest research and best practices in treating infections into an individual care plan. I feel privileged to work collaboratively with patients, caregivers and the multidisciplinary care teams at Fred Hutch to develop a treatment approach tailored to each patient's goals.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians and researchers. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
