About

Dr. Ryan C. Lynch is a hematologist‑oncologist and researcher at Fred Hutch, specializing in lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukemia. He cares for patients while conducting clinical trials to optimize therapies and bring about new treatment options.

Background

Dr. Lynch is board certified in medical oncology, hematology and internal medicine. His clinical expertise includes treating a broad range of lymphoma subtypes, including Hodgkin lymphoma, diffuse large B‑cell lymphoma, follicular lymphoma, lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma and marginal zone lymphoma.

In addition to patient care, Dr. Lynch is actively involved in clinical research for chronic lymphocytic leukemia and lymphomas. Although many effective therapies exist for these diseases, they do not work for every patient. Dr. Lynch conducts clinical trials designed to optimize existing treatments and evaluate novel therapeutic agents, with the goal of improving outcomes and expanding options for patients whose disease does not respond to standard approaches.

Area of Clinical Practice
Hematologic malignancies

“It’s an honor to help guide patients through their medical problems.”

— Dr. Lynch

Why do you practice oncology?

Before I started medical school, I had the opportunity to work in a research lab that studied the development of blood vessels in tumors. Many of the lab’s ongoing projects were being translated into novel therapeutics. Becoming an oncologist was a way I could help bring those therapies to patients. As my training progressed, I worked in oncology clinics and witnessed the translation from bench to bedside firsthand. That experience inspired me to work directly with patients while also exploring novel treatments for lymphomas and chronic lymphocytic leukemia through clinical trials.

What is your approach to care and treatment?

Every person handles their cancer diagnosis differently; it can set off a wide range of feelings and life changes that are unique to each individual. I enjoy connecting with patients and families, learning about your goals for care, your hopes, your plans for the future and your concerns. It is my job to help you understand and feel comfortable with your treatment plan, whether you’re receiving a standard therapy, choosing a novel approach or participating in a clinical trial.
