Background

Dr. Katherine A. Guthrie is a biostatistician specializing in the design and conduct of clinical trials, with the goal of providing statistical leadership that promotes the integrity and utility of the scientific research in which she is involved. She leads the study design, conduct, and analysis of clinical trials in the areas of gastrointestinal cancers and palliative care, many of which are conducted through the NCI-funded SWOG Cancer Research Network. She also provides statistical expertise as a co-investigator on ancillary translational studies that are integrated into cancer treatment trials, and grants to provide extra-SWOG funding for survivorship and palliative care trials, such as to support a centralized intervention research group requiring complex data infrastructure.

Dr. Guthrie is also a principal investigator of the Statistics and Data Management Center for the Cancer Screening Research Network (CSRN), created by NCI to evaluate emerging technologies for cancer screening. She provides statistical and scientific leadership to the research network that has recently launched its first trial, the Vanguard Study.
