Value in Cancer Care Initiative Town Hall welcomes input on oncology value measures - Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center

SEATTLE – May 16, 2014 –The Value in Cancer Care Initiative, part of the Hutchinson Institute for Cancer Outcomes Research, will hold a public forum on Monday, May 19 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The public forum is an interactive and inclusive process that will provide an opportunity for attendees to discuss and refine the top six value metrics in oncology, which originated from the Value in Cancer Care Summit held in January. Participants also will be asked to help identify the next steps and continue the dialogue around reducing the economic and human burden of cancer in our region.

The top six metrics that will be discussed during the forum are end-of-life chemotherapy, coordinated care, palliative care, guideline adherence, biomarkers and hospital admission.

The Town Hall kicks off with a keynote address by Daniel Wolfson, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the American Board of Internal Medicine Foundation. Wolfson will update the community on the national ABIM Choosing Wisely Campaign in oncology. HICOR’s Value in Cancer Care Initiative is a coalition of health care provider groups, health insurers, businesses and patient groups that are working to define, collect and share oncology value measures in Washington state.

The Town Hall is open to the public and will take place at the Robert M. Arnold Building on the campus of Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, 1100 Fairview Ave. N., Seattle, Wash., 98109.
