SCCA seeks volunteers: Next orientation July 20, 27

Urgent need for customer service volunteers, cosmetologists and barbers for the new SCCA House retail store; two-part training required

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is recruiting volunteers to provide practical and social support to patients and their family members at the SCCA clinic or at Shine, the new retail store scheduled to open at SCCA House in September.

If you have weekday, daytime availability and are interested, Volunteer Services will hold orientation and training sessions Wednesdays, July 20 and 27, 3:30-6:30 p.m. in the SCCA Clinic. Prospective volunteers must register in advance and attend both sessions.

Even if you aren’t available to volunteer, please forward this information to friends, family and neighbors. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old (21 for some roles) and able to make a commitment of at least six months.

Urgent need: Retail store volunteers, cosmetologists, barbers

SCCA Volunteer Services has several opportunities, but the need is urgent for two roles:

  • Retail store volunteers—needed to provide efficient and courteous service to customers and help support retail operations. Rain or Shine is located in the SCCA outpatient clinic and offers unique gifts, sundries, and newsstand items. Shine retail store, featuring specialty products for cancer patients and gift items for the entire community, will open in September at the SCCA House.
  • Cosmetology/barber volunteers—needed to serve in Shine retail store at SCCA House and assist patients and caregivers with head shaves, styling and hair alternatives. (Valid Washington state cosmetology license is required.)

New volunteers in the above two categories who wish to support Shine during its grand opening and beyond must attend the July orientation. Please let your stylist/barber know about this opportunity, which only requires one two-hour volunteer shift per week.

Other volunteer opportunities include:

  • Drivers (at least 21 years of age and with clean driving record)
  • Massage therapy volunteers (must be licensed and insured)
  • Event committee volunteers (one-two weekday evenings a month)
  • Labyrinth hosts (limited opportunities)
  • Child life volunteers (limited opportunities)
