Information on masking, visitors and vaccines

Masks, Visitors and Screening

At Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, we remain committed to your health and safety, especially as we enter respiratory virus season. We’re writing to share up-to-date information on masking, our visitor policy, symptom screening, and COVID-19 and flu vaccines.

  • All people who enter Fred Hutch, including staff, patients, family members, caregivers and others, are required to wear medical grade masks, such as surgical, KN95 and N95 while in the clinic. Please continue to wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose to your appointments. Surgical masks are available at the front door if you need one.
  • Visitors:
    • We encourage any visitors who come to the clinic to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
    • Visitors should not come to the clinic if they have any symptoms of COVID-19.
    • If you would like someone to come with you to your appointment, please bring one person only. This helps us reduce the number of people in the clinic. If you would like more than one person to join you, please consider calling them during your appointment so they can participate that way. There are phones in clinic rooms if you need one.
  • At the South Lake Union campus, we will stop screening patients and visitors for COVID-19 at the front door. Instead, we will screen for symptoms when you check in for your appointment. Screening for all other Fred Hutch locations will stay the same.

COVID-19 Vaccines

  • As of November 1, 2022, we are no longer providing COVID-19 vaccines (primary series or bivalent boosters). To find a vaccine provider:
    • Visit vaccines.gov
    • Call 1-833-VAX-HELP (833-829-4357), then press #. Language assistance is available
    • Text your zip code to 438-829 (GET VAX) or 822-862 (VACUNA)
    • Schedule through UW Medicine: uwmedicine.org/coronavirus/vaccine
    • Contact your local pharmacy
  • We will no longer require COVID-19 testing before procedures. Notify your care team if you have any COVID-19 symptoms before you come to the clinic for your procedure.
  • We strongly recommend eligible people with cancer get fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to protect them from serious illness due to COVID-19. If you have not been vaccinated for COVID-19, please ask your care team if you are eligible.
  • We strongly encourage the people you live with and others you see often get vaccinated, as this is an important way to help protect you (and them). The COVID-19 vaccine is currently available to everyone 6 months and older.

Annual Flu Vaccine

  • We continue to offer the flu vaccine to patients and caregivers. Please tell your care team if you’d like to schedule a flu vaccine appointment.
  • The flu vaccine is recommended for everyone 6 months and older. The flu vaccine helps protects people with cancer and other at-risk populations from severe illness.

Reminders

  • Please continue to maintain safe social distance while in the clinic.
  • Fred Hutch is still offering telehealth appointments when appropriate. Ask your care team if this is an option for you, especially if you would like more than one person to participate in your appointment.
  • The visitor policy may be different at UW Medical Center- Montlake, including Fred Hutch Cancer Center Hospital, which is located at UW Medical Center- Montlake. Please check UW’s website for their most up-to-date visitor policy, if possible, before you go.
